Sustainability
Whilst we admit we’re not fully sustainable, we try to do our bit where we can. See below what we already do, and if you have any further suggestions we’d love to hear them!
UPCYCLING: What more can you ask for then upcycling items! Restoring and re-using rather then throwing away. In our business we save items of furniture from ending up in landfill every week. We give them new a lease of life and they can go on to be used and loved for many more years to come. We encourage anyone to look to a local upcycler or charity, rather then taking items to a dump! There’s always someone that can do something with them, or someone in need. Vintage items have so much character and charm, they make your home so much more unique, plus they’re generally very made well so last a long time. The more you support small upcycling business like ours the more furniture we can save!
COMMISSIONS: Rather then buying new or ordering flat packs, why not see if a furniture upcyler can find you something that already exists and fits your needs. If you order a piece of bespoke furniture to fit what you’re looking for, then you are helping to save an item from landfill. Or why not have an upcycler refresh an item of your existing furniture? If you’re bored of something you own, want a change or the item is looking tired, you can order commissions on your own items too.
PACKAGING: We collect cardboard from our local neighbourhood and businesses to re-use as the outer packaging when wrapping our items for delivery. This means we use recycled cardboard rather then buying in new large sheets that are going to be used once then thrown away. Hence if you unwrap your item and it has strange font/ logos inside… that’s why! We encourage you to re-use them again if you can. We try to use other re-cycled wrap in our packaging where we can too.
DELIVERY: We use a courier who collects and delivers from multiple people as he goes past on his circular route around the UK. It’s more economical this way, having him collect as he passes your location rather then using a delivery service that comes out and goes back to a central hub just for an individual collection. We also encourage collection if you’re local too.
SCRAPS: We try and collect and send as many of our fabric scraps to local schools that re-use them in their art departments for scrap books etc. We try to find a use for every bit of waste from our fabrics on other projects rather then throw them away. We also re-cycle what waste products we can.
